Santa Mom

This is me "Santa Mom". I was talking with my best friend Ellen the other day trying to find time to get together. She said "How come in December all my friends disappear?". We continued talking about how busy we were getting ready for Christmas. Then she adds "If all women were to go on a holiday or disappear, they would have to cancel Christmas". So I was thinking of her when I was doing this layout. I think we are all Santa Mom's!! So Merry Christmas to all the Mom's". I also am entering this in a sketch challenge at Frosted Designs and a  die cut challenge at  Stuck on You Sketches. This morning I was looking at one of my favourite sites the paper variety, and the photo challenge with the adorable puppy and his santa hat made me think of this photo my hubby took, so I just had to enter it there too. Happy Holidays my friends!

Scrap a Little Guest Design Spot

I'm so excited! Today I am featured as a guest designer for Scrap A Little. This is the sketch Helen gave me to work with and my two takes on it. The rest of my layouts can been seen on her site, so if you get a chance, please check it out! This is my first guest design spot, so I'm really thrilled to be a "little" part of Scrap a Little. Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy Holiday Season to you and yours!

Surrounded with Love

Christopher and Nicole got engaged Christmas morning 2009. Chris made Nicole a scrapbook (with Mom's help) and on the last few pages he cut out a space and put her engagement ring in it. The scrapbook was a story of their journey together as a couple. I will never forget that day. I was excited with the sketch at Bobunny and was even more excited to use the Midnight Frost collection. I wonder what surprises are in store this Christmas? Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the season with your family and friends!

Merry and Bright

We just can't take that traditional family photo now can we? lol. In this photo I believe we thought we were from James Bond!! Usually it's someone making antlers or bunny ears behind someone else or jumping into other peoples this is almost close to normal, lol. I found a challenge at design dollies, the first time I'm trying a challenge there. The sketch by Kristy Dalman was so cute, how could I not try it!! I'm also entering this in a challenge at category stories, another new site I found. Have a wonderful bright and sunny day! ( Right now it's blustery and snowy here....but I can dream of spring).

Always & Forever

Whenever I see a new sketch challenge or any challenge I just love using Nicole and Chris' engagement photos. Andrea at Pink Sugar Photography is keeping me busy with the amazing work she does. How could I not scrap every one of them? And if you remember...there is 91!  So bring on the challenges! And...they seem to go with every paper line! I'm in heaven, lol. This is based on sketch #133 at creative scrappers, so thanks so much to Suzanne for the amazing sketch! Have a wonderful sunny day!

Birthday Boy

This is my great nephew Noah on his first birthday! I am called his graunty, lol, which is short for great-aunt. We call him "baby blue" because he has the most beautiful blue eyes. I love the days I get to visit him and he has just learnt to give kisses, so now I'm really thrilled! I'm a pretty proud graunty. I used the sketch at sketchabilities and combined it with the week #13 challenge at the paper variety. I was so excited to use the MME alphabet soup line with his birthday pics! Thanks for stopping by...have a wonderful sunny day!

My Son

I was so excited to use my new Basic Grey on this layout! When I saw the sketch at sketches in thyme, I knew I had to try it. I loved the little circles in the sketch, but decided to make mine big! After starting the sketch I saw a challenge at the scraproom, which called for a two word title and one photo. Well...I couldn't resist doing the two challenges in one! I call these a "double header". Challenges are so much fun. They help me step "out of the box" and try new things. This layout is just about Ry and I hanging out and sharing a hug. I love my boy!!

Joy and Sunshine's hard to get my boys to sit and do a "normal" photo by the Christmas tree, lol. They always come up with something unique. Last year it was sunglasses. I guess they thought it was a " bright and sunny Christmas", or maybe they are getting tired of having to pose in those Santa hats AGAIN, lol. Wait until I scrap Nicole who had her 3-D glasses on and a silly grin. WARNING: You pose, I's gonna end up on my blog and on a challenge site for sure!!! I found the challenge on the Paper Variety which was a tic tac toe game...and oh what fun that was! So I chose...make a layout, black/white/red, and mixed alphas. The sketch for the challenge came from Frosted Designs. So thanks to Debbie for the sketch and PV for the fun game. Now we sing....."It's beginning to look alot like Christmas"! I'm off to decorate my tree..oh and yes...take more photos!!

It's a Love Thing

I was pretty excited to get out the MME Christmas Paper and work on a challenge. You had to get inspiration from the sketch at my minds eye and use the theme It's a ____ thing". Well I couldn't help but use the photos from the day Chris proposed to Nicole! Christmas morning! I had fun distressing and glitter misting almost everything!! This was a fun challenge! I also entered this layout at Frosted Designs. The new challenge was to use glitter! Oh did I glitter, lol. The title, the snowflakes, the little stockings I made. It's hard to see in the scan but my daughter came in my office and said..." Mom..that's a pretty sparkly layout"...Too much glitter??? Never, lol.

Scrap Create Play Inspire

This is another one of my double header layouts, lol. The sketch comes from a challenge at Creative Scrappers and the idea from Bobunny. The Bobunny challenge was to create a layout about something that you love about yourself or your favourite thing about yourself. Well...what do I luv about myself?? My ability to create, play, inspire and scrap! I love to create. I like to decorate, I like colours, so everything I love to do I bring to scrapbooking. I even like to sing, which again I can do while I scrap. The list goes on and on. I really do love Bobunny for challenging me to do layouts about myself and the things I love, since I so rarely scrap myself. So...these are photos of my scrap room and the place I love to scrap, create and play!

My Sunflower

This is all about my sunflower! When I had surgery, Nicole bought me a bouquet of sunflowers which are one of my favourite flowers. We were playing with the camera at the cabin and took this photo which I love (it's my screensaver lol). I wanted to do a layout using this photo and so when I found another sketch at lets capture these sketches I was pretty excited. I found some old Bo Bunny paper that I had stored in my stash and away I went. Thanks to the talented Martine who designed the sketch! The twist was to not use any cardstock, which was easy for me because I rarely use it! This layout brought me back to summer and my sunflower since today I'm looking out my window and all I see is snow, lol.
Lets Capture These Sketches #63
The journaling reads: It stands in the garden border so elegant and tall, The lovely yellow sunflower, the happiest flower of all. It loves to hold its head high, towards the heavens above, For it know that God is watching, and tending it with love. A lesson can be learned from this gracious yellow flower, It doesn't question how it grows, but trust God's wondrous powers.

The challenge at sketches in thyme this week was to use a sketch, any sketch and show your work. I love this one, so I thought I would share it with the girls there!

A day in the zoo

Everyone know I love challenges. Well I found a new challenge at Lets caputure these sketches. This is for Challenge #161 where Heather did an amazing sketch with a twist. You had to have a 'critter' on the layout. Well...I thought these zoo pics would definitely qualify as critters, lol. I did have fun with the slice, cutting out the swirls and the title. I even used my new border punch. This is what you do when it's 11:00pm and your having fun scrapbooking. And...a Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Grad Photo Shoot

I was so excited to find the cd of all of Ryan's grad photos. When they took the photos they did the traditional cap and gown poses but also some informal ones. I'm having as much fun with these as I am with Nicole's engagement photos. I found a sketch at Frosted Designs which I was excited to try. It's my first challenge with their site. I thought this Oliver line from Basic Grey worked really well with the photo. So thanks to Frosted Design for the great challenge and inspiration.

Another update! Last night I found out I won the prize pack for my layout. This is such an exciting week!

Happy Me

I have been wanting to start on a "book of me" for quite awhile now. I have been collecting things to go into the album for a few years. The word circles are old Wild Asparagus and the paper is Basic Grey. When I found this challenge at the scrap room, to scraplift something from their November gallery,  I thought what a perfect time to start! The word circles are what inspired me to scraplift Melanie Calls layout. I find it hard to do layouts of myself. I either hate the photo or can't find any, lol. I guess I just have to try harder to be in photos ( not being the one behind the camera) and just learning to love myself.

Sunday, November 21, 2010

I'm so in luv with Nicole and Chris' engagments photos, I think I could use them for every layout, lol. I found a sketch at stuck on u sketches that I wanted to try. I love using Basic Grey so I picked the periphery line. I did some cutting of the different papers, made some flowers which I misted and glimmered and then added some bling to dress it up. I haven't found a paper line that their photos don't go with, lol. Thanks so much my friends for stopping by and leaving your sweet and encouraging comments!

Zoo Day Fun

So this is what I call a "double header" lol. I found the idea for the layout on scrapbookers-anonymous. It was to use holiday paper for a non-holiday layout! I thought that my halloween paper would be great to use for a photo of a tiger we saw at the zoo. Now I had to come up with a layout idea! I went to creative scrappers and used sketch #129. This was almost too much fun! It's wild...but it was fun!

Bow Falls

When I saw this sketch at Creative scrappers I knew I just had to do another fall layout. I have SO much of the origins line I think I have used it for at least 10 layouts already. But you know...I never tire of using it. Maybe because fall layouts are my favourite? lol. For those of you that know me...Fall is my favourite season. I love the colours, the weather, just the beauty of the season. This photo is of our anniversary trip to Banff. Every time we are there, I always have to go to the Bow Falls and take pictures. We met a really nice couple from England who offered to take our picture by the could I resist that? Thanks so much my scrappy friends for stopping by!

The boys are always fooling around and on Thanksgiving they were taking pictures of each other taking pictures! I was looking through my stash and found this Basic Grey "lime rickey" paper and thought "perfect" for this photo. I have a hard time working with red and Ryan wears alot of it, lol. This layout was for challenge #24 at sketches in thyme. I love that the sketch had so many circles. I admit...I went a little wild with the circles but I usually do such muted layouts and this one gave me a chance to use those bright colours. So...thanks for dropping by my friends! Have a wonderful weekend.

Please click on the layout to see a larger version.
Left Hand side of the layout
Right Hand side of the layout

These photos are from our trip to Banff this fall. We had just bought a new camera for our anniversary so we spent three days driving in the mountains and playing with the camera. It's great for me because fall layouts are my favourite to do. This was the first two page spread I have done in a long time. I use to do them all the time, but then switched to doing less photos and single spreads. This was for a sketch challenge at the paper variety. Julie Bonner is such a talented artist, so it was a pleasure to work with her sketch. When I look at these photos it reminds me of fall while I'm sitting here watching the snow fall. When is spring? lol.

Just an update! I was so excited to find out my layout won the prize pack this week! My first prize ever!!! I just had to share because I'm so excited, lol.

Pigs now you all know! Not only do I have a scrapbook addiction, a mesh and tag addiction...but I also have an addiction to anything to do with "pigs". I LOVE PIGS! I have stuffed pigs, ceramic pigs, pig planters, pig pot holders, pig slippers, pig pillows...yikes I have alot of pigs. Oh...don't forget the pig calendar! Now for Christmas if Santa could bring me a pocket pig...I would be set! I got this idea for the layout from the bobunny blog. The challenge was to do a layout about yourself and you could also use the new sketch! This was just too much fun. I got to use my bobunny stash....and finally scrap my love of pigs!!!!

I just don't want this week to end! I just won the basket of goodies for my layout! This is the best week ever!!!

The Paper Variety Week 9 Challenge

I saw a challenge at the the paper variety which asked for 3 colour of mist or paint, two flowers and three different patterned papers. I had just the perfect layout. I have tons of flowers which are all glimmer misted (may be hard to see), and I'm a patterned paper lover! This layout is about Nicole and Christopher who have been together since junior high and are now getting married. These are two of their engagement photos. I just love the paper variety and have so much fun playing there!

Love Lessons Learned

I just can't get enough of working with Nicole & Chris's engagement photos. There are so many of them I'm in my glory when I see a new challenge and I know exactly which photos to use. Thank goodness they have 91! I think I will have them all scrapped sooner or later and then they will have an engagement album! This is for a challenge on the My minds eye blog. This is the first challenge I have entered there, so we will see what happens! The  theme was lessons learned so I chose "love lessons learned" to document how far they have come as a couple. The love of two junior high students to the mature love of two young adults.  I just can't wait for their wedding day.

Our Day

My daughter Nicole finally got all her engagement photos! I was so excited! They took 91 photos in all which I have on my computer ready to scrap! The photos are so beautiful and they go with every paper line, lol. I told Nicole and Chris that I can scrap for at least a month with all these. This layout is another one I did for my guest design spot for scrap-a-little. This is Helen's sketch #13. I love working with her sketches and the inspiration on her site. I'm very excited to be featured on her blog. My guest spot is December 15 so I'm busy working with the sketch she sent. Have a wonderful day everyone....blessings!

This is my beautiful little niece Renee! She is always up for a photo shoot. We have so much fun together because my "little ones" are now 18 & 22, and she is she still wants to hang out with aunty! I did this layout for my guest design spot on Helen Crofts blog scrap-a-little. This sketch was #35. I am working on a new sketch for the design spot...but I will have to keep that one a secret until December 15!

Halloween Night

I asked the kids this year if they still wanted to carve pumpkins seeing as they are 18 and 22 years old. Well...the look on their faces! Of course they wanted to carve pumpkins and they wanted to invite their friends over too. So we planned a pizza pumpkin party and away we went! Chris carved out the "apple logo", Nicole did "toad" from Mario Party, Ryan carved out a skeleton, Shelby did a "Shelby" pumpkin, Meaghan did a "little M" one and Alex stuck to the traditional smiling pumpkin. I got the sketch from My little Sketch Blook, so thank you Liz for the inspiration!

In the Patch

The weather for Thanksgiving was so warm this year that we were able to be outside to do our family photos. We took some serious ones....then the fun began. We were trying continuous shooting on our camera so every few seconds everyone had to do another "pose". We had lots of fun...and I have tons of photos! Can't wait to scrap the rest of them! I found this sketch on sketchabilities and thought it was just perfect for the photos I wanted to use! Happy fall everyone! ( P.S. The snow has melted and it's fall again lol).

Piles of Smiles

We had so much fun on Thanksgiving taking pictures outside at Mom's. The kids were goofing around the we got some great shots! When I found the challenge at paper variety I knew just the photo and paper I wanted to use. Fall is one of my favourite times of year and I love scrapbooking with the browns, yellows, oranges and reds. I've been trying to use my Slice more so I made the flowers using it. I also love to distress and scrunch things! And...just for my sister....can you find the mesh? lol.

My Meadow

This is another photo from our trip to Waterton. When I found this meadow I jumped out of the suv and ran. I sang, danced and sat in the meadow. My darling husband saw this as a definite photo opportunity and grabbed the camera. It was a day I will always remember...a day in my meadow! I did this layout for a sketch challenge on my little sketch blook. Liz Qualman is such a talented artist and designer. I love her sketches! So thank you Liz!

This Old House

On one of our weekends at the cabin we took a drive so I could take pictures of old houses! I'm in love with old homes. These homes hold so much history. Who lived there? What was their life like? It's so fun to imagine what memories these homes hold. This layout was for a challenge on the scraproom blog.  We had to scraplift a layout from the gallery. I chose a beautiful layout by Jennifer Moore. So thank you Jennifer!

My Guy

Now this is what I call a "double header". I found this sketch on creative scrappers which was created by the oh so talented Aphra Bolyer. Then I found an idea on scrap it with a song which asked you to use the song "My Guy". I thought....what a perfect opportunity to combine both ideas! So...this is my guy, and the song fits so perfectly. So thanks to both sites for keeping my creativity going!

Hay Friends

This layout is for a sketch at Bobunny. I thought it was going to be an easy one when my sister called and said..."your gonna love the new has alot of white space". I thought the sketch was amazing! I fiddled and fiddled for a few days with this...but I was finally happy with the end result. Bobunny is one of my favourite paper I did suggest to my sister that make a visit to the scrapbook store to pick up some more! I was excited to be able to use another photo of my new friends that I met on a drive in the country too. They came right to the fence ready to be fed and petted. I spent a few moments with them...but the memory will last a lifetime.

Beach Boy

This layout of Ryan being his silly self was for a challenge at sketchy thursdays for the November GDT Challenge. The challenge asked you to use something orange and something punched! Ohhh I'm starting to love working with bright colours so this was fun. Ryan is always giving me plenty to scrapbook because he loves being silly and just knows I see a "scrapbook moment" in the making.Wonder if he will play in the snow for some winter layouts? lol.

My day with horses

We were driving down the back roads at the cabin learning how to use our new camera. We spotted some horses hidden in the trees so we stopped. When we got out of the car they came up to the fence. They were so friendly and all they wanted was someone to feed and pet them. I felt so blessed to be able to spend a few moments with such beautiful animals. Thanks to the amazingly talented Karan Gerber at Sketchabilities, I had this beautiful sketch to work with. I will never forget my day with the horses.

Hey Cupcake!

This was a really fun layout...I had my Basic Grey on my desk...I had a beautiful sketch from Sketchy Thursdays by my side....and a few minutes until I had to leave! This one is of my sister and I whose birthdays are three days apart so we always celebrate them together....she says we are "twins"...but we both know who is much much older, lol. Luv ya Sis ( cause I know your going to look at this).

Right Side Up & Upside Down

I was looking for another sketch challenge and I found such an awesome sketch at Pencil Lines that I couldn't wait to try. I had these photos of Ryan doing tricks on the sand at the lake and I grabbed some "max and whiskers" from Basic Grey and away I went. This was so much fun to do and really quick and easy. Hope everyone is having an awesome day!

Maybe Someday

We were walking down the Bow Trail on our weekend getaway when we came to a tunnel under the bridge. I thought the brick wall would make for some great photos. I wanted the layout to be simple and focus on the photo more than the elements. This was for a sketch at Creative Scrappers. I love doing their sketches, they are so easy to work with. This was a really reflective layout for me, and in some ways it was therapeutic. I can now see why people scrapbook the good and the tough times in my sister told's the journey. So I thank her for helping me on my journey...I love ya Sista! My journaling reads: It's been a tough journey these last six months of my life. I have learnt that I am a stronger woman than I thought I was. I'm yet to begin to understand why things happen the way they do, but I have to go on. One day I may look back and understand...but not today.

Boys will be Boys

This is a photo of Ryan on the motorbike and Chris on the quad down by the beach at our cabin. They are always goofing around and having fun. They are  brothers....and in just a few months it will be "official". Now Ryan has someone who knows what boys like...getting muddy, going fast, spinning doughnuts and blowing stuff out of a potato cannon! These are my boys...and I love them!

Paper Variety Week#4 Challenge

This photo had been sitting on my desk for a few days...then along came a challenge at The Paper Variety blog which asked you to scraplift one of the design teams layouts. When I saw Suzannes layout I knew that would fit my photo perfectly. I love using my mamarazzi line so it was an easy choice lol. So...thanks Suzanne for the inspiration! It's my very first submission to their site and I'm pretty excited to join the next challenge!

ScrapRoom Challenge #40

Ryan and Shelby went to the park one night with the camera in hand to take some fall pictures. They took some awesome photos and I was pretty excited to start scrapping them. Of course I pulled out my favourite line of Basic Grey and got to work. I used a challenge on the Scrap Room blog which I loved. You had to use pot dots on your away I went. I think I used pop dots on everything, even the photos lol. Fall is my favourite time of year so I can't wait to start the next layout.

ScrapRoom Challenge #39

I've had this tiger photo on my desk for awhile. I found a great challenge site called The Scraproom which hosts weekly challenges. This was my first entry...something scalloped. It was fun to do, cause you all know I love Bo Bunny!
On a side note...I'm off to buy a new camera today, I'm so excited because it's an anniversary present from my husband and we are going away for a little holiday to celebrate. I'm so excited to take my new camera and see how many photos I can bring home lol. Life is good!

Scrap-a-little #32

This is my take on a sketch by one of my favourite artists, Helen Croft  who has a blog called scrap a little. When I saw the sketch I knew exactly which photos to pick. I think the story behind the layout is pretty funny (or maybe you had to be there, lol). I like shabby clothes! When I bought my "holy jeans" my mom looked at them and said "who would pay money for jeans with holes in them?". I said "Mom, they are holy jeans"...She then looks at me and says "Are you telling me you had them blessed?". I then had to explain lol. So this is my tribute to my "holy jeans" and just me being me!

Inspired Blueprints #55

Another take on a sketch from Inspired Blueprints. These are photos from the butterfly gardens in Victoria. They are the most graceful, calming and beautiful insects. The journaling reads: Beautiful and graceful, small but approachable, varied and enchanting, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.
